FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) _ Army Spc. Charles Graner Jr., convicted of mistreating Iraqis at Abu Ghraib prison, took the stand for the first time Saturday and said he had been ordered to abuse detainees. He called the pictures of him flashing a thumbs-up next to naked detainees an expression of dark humor. Speaking a day after his conviction in the case that sparked international outrage, Graner conceded that much of what took place at the prison was "criminal," but said he did not enjoy it. | |
