I am a life-long Episcopalian having been raised in St. Bartholomew’s EpiscopalChurch in North Augusta, SC. I moved to Spartanburg in 1981 and have been a memberof St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church since 1982. St. Bartholomew’s and St.Christopher’s are the only two churches of which I have been a member.
I became a lay reader upon joining St. Christopher’s and have continuouslyserved to this day. I am also a Verger, chalice bearer,and have served as an acolyte. I have served as an usher but am not currently so serving. Ihave been a member of theWorship Committee since I became a Verger, several yearsago, and at times havechaired the committee. When St. Christopher’s was a Parish I served two terms on theVestry and served as Junior Warder. As a past member ofVestry I served on theproperties committee. During my years at St. Christopher’s I have served on three searchcommittees, the most recent of which was the search that brought Fr. Trimble to us.I have worked on the community garden, both on the gardencommittee andindependently. I am sort of thead hocchairman (don’t know how that happened) of theBrotherhood of St. Christopher’s (the men’s group) and am a voluntary committee of onein charge ofshrubbery trimming and Fellowship Hall gutter cleaning.
I am told that I was born on December 1, 1955 in Allendale, SC, raised in NorthAugusta, SC, am married to Cindy (nee Smith), have two grown sons, two daughters-in-law (one per son) and four grandchildren. I graduated from theUniversity of SouthCarolina and the University of South Carolina School of Law (1981) and have been in aprivate law practice in Spartanburg ever since.
Charlie Kendrick started going to the Episcopal church as a college student and was confirmed at Grace Church, Charleston. For many years he was a member of Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg, Virginia where he served twice on the Vestry. When Charlie moved home to Spartanburg in 2010, he joined St. Christopher's. At St. Christopher's he has sung in the Choir, been on the Mission Committee, and served as Senior Warden.
Karen has been an Episcopalian for 36 years and a member of St. Christopher's since the mid-1980s. She is very busy at church, currently serving on the Flower Guild (Chair), Altar Guild, Outreach Committee, Worship Committee, Wedding Committee, Fun and Fellowship and Oyster Roast Committees. Karen and her husband, Peter, have a daughter, Abby, a son-in-law, and two grandchildren. Karen is the Practice Manager at Orthopedic Specialties of Spartanburg.
Anita has attended St. Christopher's for 22 years. She is a choir member, a bell choir member, an altar guild member, a lector, a bible study 2:42 group member, and helps knit prayer shawls. Anita is also a member of the Communications committee. She and her husband John have two sons, Nick and Jack, who were raised and confirmed at St. Christopher's.
Erin Hubbell became a part of St. Christopher's in the 70’s when her parents met then-rectorRev. Rogers Harris at a cocktail party and subsequently joined the church. As an adult, havingreturned to St. Christopher’s, she is a chalice bearer, verger, and member of the hand bellchoir.In addition to having served on the recent Search Committee, she is currently on theChildren/Youth and Worship Committees. Erin’s daughter Grace is 15 and a freshman at SHS,where her mother teaches English and Latin.
Emilio is a cradle Episcopalian. He moved to Spartanburg in 2005 and became a member of St. Christopher later that summer. He has been a verger and chalice bearer since 2006; and also serves on the Fun & Fellowship committee, the worship committee, teller, sound technician and a juice bar volunteer. Emilio is also active in the community as a member of Epsilon Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and volunteers as a coach with The First Tee of Spartanburg & Cherokee Counties at the Creek Golf Club. Emilio and his wife Wanda, a Spartanburg native, have one son, Travis, and a grandson, Nathan.
Adam is a Spartanburg native who joined St. Christopher's in 2013. He has a B.A. in Music from Mars Hill University and an M.M. in Conducting with an emphasis in Church Music from Mercer University. He is a welcome and familiar face and voice every Sunday in the church choir. In 2012, Adam started a flight school and fixed base aviation operation at the Spartanburg Downtown Airport. Adam is married to Meredith, the Director of Children's Ministries.
Bruce grew up in Walhalla, SC and moved to Spartanburg following graduation. He received an AS degree in Emergency Medical Technology from Greenville Technical College and a BS in Healthcare Administration from The Medical University of South Carolina. Bruce came to St Chris in 2000 and was confirmed following 17 years of intense study. He is married to the good Dr. Angel Rochester and has 2 cute babies, Samuel(10) and Alexis(6). Bruce retired from Spartanburg Medical Center after 24 years and is now self employed.
Mary retired after 43 years of teaching in Oklahoma, Kentucky and Spartanburg School District #7. She is a past president of the South Carolina Science Council, and current business manager for the Green Spartanburg Science Center. Mary is a life-long Episcopalian who joined St. Christopher's in 1985. She not only is active with Daughters of the King, the Flower Guild, and the Altar Guild but also oversees The Juice Bar ministry. Mary and her husband, Alex, have two children, Brian and Katie, and 6 grandchildren.
Ruth Anne was raised at St. Christopher’s and returned with her family in 1994. She has served as treasurer since 2008, has a community garden plot and is a member of the design committee. Ruth Anne is also active in the community through her service on the boards of the Uptown Sertoma Club and Camp Sertoma of SC. She and her husband, Rob, have two sons, Will and Alex, who grew up and were confirmed at St. Chris.
